  • Story Text: A world record: Israelis make a 300-kilo cheesecake Weighing in at a little over 300 kilos (660 pounds), what claims to be the world's largest cheesecake was put on show on Tuesday by Israeli bakers.
    Whether it is the world's largest or not, the cheesecake had plenty to offer the unhealthy in the northern port town of Haifa: more than 250 eggs, 120 kilos of cheese and 40 kilos of sugar and 70 kilos of flour went into this creation.
    The cheesecake weighed in at 660 pounds and measured 320 centimetres by 120.
    It was baked in honour of the Jewish holiday of Shavouot, one of the holiest feasts in the Jewish calendar.
    Shavuout celebrates the giving of the Torah to the Jewish people, and dairy foods are traditionally eaten during this holiday.
    An Israeli baker who took part in the fund raising event believed the cake is the world's biggest cheesecake ever.
    The Guinness Book of Records clearly has room to specialise further it has an entry for the biggest cake - but not the biggest cheesecake.
    But this proud monument to culinary achievement came to a swift and sticky end. It was shared between local schoolchildren and needy families from the city hours before the start of the holiday.
