- Story Text: Israelis awoke on Friday (July 14) to scenes of damage after Hizbollah guerilla fighters hit northern Israel with rocket attacks amid worst regional violence escalation in years.
Clean-up crews worked to clear the streets of debris, and residents came out to assess damage.
"Of course this is not the most easy situation on earth, but we can overcome it and move forward," one resident of Nahariya said.
"Me, personally with my family, we'll stay here. We'll continue to be here," another resident said.
In the town of Safed, some of the residents awoke in shelters. Others were at the bus station seeking transportation to bring them further south, and out of the range of the rockets fired from Lebanon.
The Israeli military said Hizbollah had fired more than 130 missiles into Israel in 48 hours, killing two civilians and wounding over 100.
Israel holds Lebanon responsible for the actions of Hizbollah, a Syrian- and Iranian-backed Islamist group which has members in parliament and in the mainly anti-Syrian cabinet.
Closer to the border with Lebanon, near Zarit, Israeli military units continued shelling targets in southern Lebanon with artillery fire. It was part of an offensive by land, sea, and air against targets in Lebanon.
Meanwhile in south, Qassam rockets fired by Palestinian militants in Gaza landed in the Israeli town of Sderot. At least one building was damaged, but there were no serious injuries. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
