- Story Text: Israeli forces clashed with stone-throwing Palestinian youths in several flashpoints in the West Bank after Friday (November 21) prayers, but Jerusalem remained largely quiet.
While thousands of Muslim worshipers attended unrestricted prayers on Friday in Al-Aqsa, Hamas supporters in the West Bank city of Hebron clashed with Israeli soldiers after prayers in support of the holy site, revered by Muslims as Noble Sanctuary and by Jews as the Temple Mount.
Israel lifted age restriction on worshippers seeking to hold prayers at Al-Aqsa mosque on Friday and the weekly prayers remained largely calm, with no major incidents reported.
But near the West Bank city of Ramallah at Qalandiya checkpoint Palestinian youths clashed with Israeli soldiers who responded with tear gas and stun grenades to disperse the crowd.
Visits by far-right Israelis to Jerusalem's most sacred compound - where al-Aqsa mosque now stands- have also raised Muslim fears that Israel will lift its decades-old ban on Jewish worship at the site. Israel says it has no such plans.
