  • Story Text: A Palestinian woman stabbed and slightly injured an Israeli in the occupied West Bank on Monday (December 1) before she was shot and wounded by security forces, the military and police said.
    The incident occurred in the Gush Etzion bloc of Jewish settlements near Jerusalem.
    A military spokesman said the wounded Israeli was a civilian and that security forces "overcame the suspect and transferred her for further medical assistance".
    A police spokeswoman said the Palestinian woman who carried out the attack was shot, and Reuters witnesses saw her being brought for treatment to Jerusalem's Hadassah hospital.
    A member of paramedic team at the scene said the woman has suffered severe injuries.
    "We have been told that there is one guy that was stabbed in the neck but that it was very shallow and he left the scene by himself, went home. And we found on scene a 20-year-old female that got shot by, I do not know by who but she had shooting wounds and we and medical force from IDF (Israeli Defence Forces) went to treat her. She was severely injured and the army ambulance evacuated her to Hadassah Ein Kerem in a very tough condition," said Eal Zahevi, an Israeli paramedic.
    Violence in Israel and the Palestinian Territories has risen in the past few months. Attacks carried out by Palestinians have killed 11 Israelis, and 12 Palestinians have also been killed, including several of the assailants.
    In July, a Palestinian youth was burned to death by Jewish attackers, allegedly in revenge for the killing of three Israeli teens by Palestinian militants in the occupied West Bank in June.
    A 50-day war that began in July between Israel and Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of more than 2,100 Palestinians, many of them civilians, as well as 67 Israeli soldiers and six civilians on the Israeli side.
    Tensions have also risen in past weeks over access to a Jerusalem religious site holy to both Muslims and Jews, triggering Palestinian street protests.
