- Story Text: A sort-lived truce between Israel and Lebanese leftists broke down on Saturday (25 August) when Palestinians renewed their attacks on Christian villages in south Lebanon. One of the week's most serious incidents was the ambushing near Tyre on Friday (24 August) of a group of Fijian soldier serving with the United Nations Forces (UNIFIL). Three were killed and two others wounded. General Emanuel Erskine, commanding officer of UNIFIL commenting on the attack called it "sheer cold blooded murder".
However the warning from the UN went unheeded. Palestinians shelled the Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona on Sunday (26 August). One shell scored a direct hit on a residential building, destroying the top floor.
...The flats were empty at the time, and two people were slightly injured.
