  • Story Text: LEBANESE/ISRAELI BORDER

    Israeli security forces have said they captured four Palestinian guerrillas attempting to cross the border from South Lebanon on Wednesday. The arrests followed a 15-minute gun battle at dawn. It was the eighth attempted border raid during the past five months. Two of the four guerrillas were wounded. No Israeli casualties were reported. The incident happened inside Israeli's self-declared "security zone" - a strip of land patrolled by Israeli forces since 1985 to prevent guerilla incursions. About 1,000 Israeli troops and 2,000 militiamen from the south Lebanon army patrol the buffer zone. Five Israeli soldiers and 17 guerrillas have been killed during attempted raids in the past. Security sources in Israel have said the four captured Palestinians attempted to cross the border fence at Kfar Yuval, north of Kiryat Shmona.
