While Israeli gunboats patrol the waters outside the ancient port of Tyre in Southern Lebanon, the local fishermen are complaining bitterly about their loss of livelihood. No ships have docked at Tyre since Israeli gunboats stepped up coastal patrols near the port some eight days ago. Local fishermen have been unable to operate. The 700 fishermen who use the port say they have been unable to put to sea. It's said to be the harshest blockade by the Israelis since its troops moved out of Tyre in June after attacks from Shi'ite Moslem forces. Normally, Tyre is a bustling thriving port, but now the dock sides are empty as the Israeli gunboats keep the large vessels out at sea and the small fishing boats in harbour. The fishermen say the patrol boats have wrecked their livelihood.
