- Story Text: The Israeli Ambassadors to the European Common Market countries began a three day conference in Jerusalem of Tuesday (20 August) to discuss economic relations between Israel and the nations they are appointed to. Inevitably political relations will also come under discussion.
The meeting was held at the Foreign Office. The Ambassadors were joined in their discussions by the Foreign Minister, Mr. Yigal Allon, the Finance Minister, Yehoshua Rabinovitz, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Haim Bar-Lev and the Governor of the Bank of Israel, Dr. Moshe Sanbar.
On October 3, Israel and the E.E.C. members will begin negotiating a new tariff agreement and it's expected the Ambassadors' meeting will reach a framework for the talks.
Later in the discussions the Ambassadors will meet Prime Ministers Rabin and Defence Minister Peres.
SYNOPSIS: In Jerusalem, Israeli Ambassadors to the European Economic Community countries have gathered at the Foreign Office for discussions on economic and political relations. The Foreign Minister, Mr. Yigal Allon greeted the Ambassadors and outlined the reasons behind the meeting.
Finance Minister yehoshua Rabinovitz also attended the first session. The talks were called as a prelude to the opening of negotiations on October third between the E.E.C. nations and Israel to reach a new tariff agreement, Mr. Allon said the meeting would work out a framework for these discussions.
Later the Ambassadors were scheduled to meet the Prime Minister, Mr. Rabin and the Defence Minister, Mr. Peres for political talks. These discussions could prove just as important as the economic talks when Israel formulates future dealings with European nations.
