- Story Text: Shebaa Farms, a remote, barren plot at the foot of
the Golan Heights, is at the centre of a dispute between the
United Nations and Lebanon's Hizbollah guerrillas who have
warned that they will continue battling Israel unless it withdraws
from the area.
Despite incessant rumours that Israel has left the area,
Israeli jeeps on Sunday (May 28) were patrolling the disputed
plateau known as Shebaa Farms.
The border was fenced off by barbed wire.Goats roamed the rocky sunbaked hillside which has virtually no residents.
The U.N.had said it was willing to confirm Israel's pullout from southern Lebanon complete even if it did not quit Shebaa, which the Jewish state claims it had seized from Syria and not Lebanon.when it occupied the Golan Heights in 1967.
Hizbollah said it would consider the Israeli withdrawal from the
south incomplete until the area is handed over to Lebanon.Lebanon
and its political master Syria insist the area is Lebanese.
