Israeli and Palestinian representatives met in Manila on Wednesday (March 21), at a United Nations (UN)-sponsored programme to promote public interest in the Israeli-Palestinian peace proces.
UN official Mohamad El-Said said representatives from Israel and "the Palestine state" were invited to participate in the international tour.Shafiq Al-Hout, a member of the Central Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) represented the Palestinian side.
Israel turned down the offer, but David Shaham, executive director of the international Centre for Peace in the Middle East, was unofficially representing Israel.
The UN group was questioned on the chances for success in the peace process, in particular US proposals for direct talks between Israel and Palestinians to discuss elections in the occupied Gaza Strip and West Bank.
Questioned about recognition of the Palestine state, Al-Hout said recognition was a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
The group previously visited London land Bangkok and will go on to Tokyo.
