- Story Text: Hundreds of mourners, including Israeli Government leaders, gathered at Kiriat Schaul Military Cemetery near Tel Aviv on Friday (7 March) to attend the funeral of a 39-year-old Army Colonel -- one of the 18 who died during a raid by Palestinian terrorists the day before on the capital's Savoy Hotel.
The officers, Colonel Uzi Yairi, was killed, along with two other soldiers, when Israeli troops stormed the small waterfront hotel where eight terrorists were holding a number of hostages.
In the gun battle that followed eight civilians -- including six foreigners -- and seven of the terrorists were also killed.
The military funeral -- attended by Israeli Prime Minister Major-General Yitzhak Rabin and Defence Minister Mr. Shimon Pares -- frequently accompany civilian funerals following terrorist raids.
Meanwhile, in the port of Haifa, the Al Fatah sailing vessel, said to have been the ship from which the terrorists launched their dinghies for the dawn assault, is being held.
The ship was captured on the high seas soon after the raid following a search by Israeli aircraft and ships. Six Arabs found on board are being questioned along with the surviving terrorist.
