- Story Text: The Israeli army removed 100 squatters trying to set up a new village at Sebastiye, north of Nablus in the occupied west bank of Jordan on Thursday (March 6). It was the squatters' second attempt in less than a year to establish a settlement around an abandoned railway station at Sebastiye. A few days earlier the soldiers removed another group of squatters from an area further south.
Both groups belong to a religious sect which believes all the biblical land of Israel belongs to the Jewish people and should be open for settlement. The Israeli Government doesn't see it that way ... and in some areas have already designated the land for industrial development ... not farming.
The Sebastiye squatters refused to budge when ordered to leave and had to be carried to army trucks. They said their settlement was the best answer to guerrilla attacks.
