- Story Text: Israel today (Saturday) retaliated against the Egyptians for sinking an Israeli trawler off the North Coast of the Sinai Peninsula last Wednesday. According to an army spokesman in Tel Aviv, Israeli air force planes have sunk an Egyptian destroyer and a missile ship at their moorings in the Red Sea.
Meanwhile, the two survivors from the sunk trawler--one of them only 17-- were recovering in hospital at Beersheba in southern Israel.
The Trawler was sunk II miles (18 Kms) off shore, and the two young men decided to swim for it. They were picked up on the shore by a Bedouin fisherman and taken to the Israeli occupation authorities. They said that the other two men on board, the trawler's captain and engineer, had been killed in the attack.
The 70-ton fishing boat, owned by a Tel Aviv resident, was said to have been hit by the Egyptian missile ship with four missiles. Explosions were heard, and the crew fired Verey lights. Israeli helicopters and aircraft went out to investigate, and spotted a floating buoy and some wrecked lifeboats, but were unable to see any signs of life.
Some of the wreckage from the trawler, which also includes life jackets and trawling nets, has now been recovered by the Israeli navy.
