- Story Text: Newsmen were allowed for the first time on Tuesday to visit advance Israeli positions along the Suez Canal near the town of Ismalya at the tip of Lake Timsah. When newsmen visited the area, all was quiet, but today Israel claimed to have shot down three U.A.R. Mig-21 jets over the Suez Canal.
In the area there have been numerous clashes between Israeli and Egyptian troops. In one recent exchange, an Israeli officer was killed and his body recovered by the Egyptians. Later, the United Arab Republic forces returned the body of the officer to the Israelis for burial.
Throughout the Press visit there were constant comings and goings, with soldiers on both sides of the Canal seen to be constantly on the alert.
