- Story Text: Thousands of pilgrims thronged the Old City of Jerusalem on Sunday (26 March) for the traditional Palm sunday processions marking the first day of the Easter Holy Week.
Earlier, Monsignor Beltritti, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, officiated at a Pontifical Mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and blessed the palm leaves. The Patriarch also took part in the procession which followed.
The pilgrims carrying palm branches, made their way along the route said to have been followed by Christ on his triumphal entrance into Jerusalem, from the Mount of Olives to St. Anne's Convent in the Old City.
The festivities culminate on Good Friday, with the commemoration of the crucifixion.
