- Story Text: Israel on Tuesday (November 29) sealed the East Jerusalem homes of three Palestinians it said were involved in the kidnapping and killing of a soldier last month, police said.
One of the men was shot dead by soldiers during a failed attempt to rescue Corporal Nachshon Waxman in October. The other two were described as accessories to the kidnapping.
Israeli authorities sealed the houses in the East Jerusalem neighbourhoods of Beit Hanina and Ras al Amud after the Supreme Court rejected petitions by family members.
The measure coincided with a remand hearing in military court against the two alleged accessories, named in the charge sheet as Jihad Shakar Yamur, 27, and Zakariya Lutfi Najib, 38.
A group of Israeli soldiers arrived in the area and welded shut the windows and doors of the homes as Palestinian residents and neighbours looked on.
In Hebron, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin toured the Cave of the Patriarchs, site of the February 25th massacre of 29 Moslem worshippers by Israeli settler Baruch Goldstein.
The Cave of the Patriarchs, holy to both Jews and Moslems, was reopened for prayers in early November for the first time since the massacre with the addition of heavy security and electronic surveillance.
Rabin toured the exterior and interior of the Tomb of the Patriarchs, and examined the new security measures.
