- Story Text: The Israeli Cabinet met in Jerusalem for its weekly session on Sunday (August 13) to discuss and approve the PLO-Israel deal agreed upon during negotiations in the Egyptian resort city of Taba.
Israel and the PLO (Palestinian Liberation Organisation) initialled a partial accord on Friday (August 11) on expanding Palestinian self-rule in the West Bank and are due to resume talks for a final settlement.
Meanwhile the Israeli army extended its closure of the Gaza Strip for another day, sealing off nearly a million Palestinians from entering Israel. Israel initially sealed off Gaza for fear of attacks by Moslem militants opposed to its peace moves with the PLO.
