  • Story Text: Lebanon's pro-Iranian Hizbollah militia on Wednesday (May 31) fired Katyusha rockets into Israel in retaliation for attacks by Israeli troops in south Lebanon.

    Military sources in Israel said the rockets slammed into Israel's Galilee region causing only light damage and injuring no one. A witness described minimal damage to a water pipe and lighting in one of the towns.

    Security sources in south Lebanon said the guerrillas fired eight Katyushas. The attack followed the death on Tuesday of a 13 year old Lebanese girl and the wounding of three in shelling by Israelis and and their allies, the South Lebanese Army (SLA). The shelling followed a guerrilla attack on an SLA position.

    Hizbollah warned in April that it would no longer honour a 1993 U.S.-brokered pact barring it from rocketing northern Israel if Israel targeted civilians in south Lebanon.

    It was the second Katyusha attack on northern Israel this month.
