  • Story Text: Turkish President Suleyman Demirel arrived in Israel on Monday (March 11) for a four-day visit, with a 200-person delegation.

    Demirel, in Israel to sign four economic agreements, is due to meet Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres, the foreign minister and visit the Holocaust Memorial.

    The president's first stop was a visit to Israeli President Ezer Weizman's residence in Jerusalem where he was met with an official, ceremonial greeting. He was greeted by Peres and ministers representing various religious affiliations.

    Demirel said the attacks which took place in Israel last week were an attack on the peace process and the stability of the region and strongly condemned what he called "horrible acts".
