The Israeli army has said its forty-eight hour incursion into South Lebanon was a success.
But as the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) returned home on Thursday, leaders warned that they may launch similar strikes if Palestinian border raids continued.
Northern Israeli border villages were on the alert for revenge attacks. Israeli radio said three Soviet-designed Katyusha rockets slammed into the security zone in South Lebanon on Thursday as the troops returned.
The Shi'ite Moslem Hizbollah fighters were the main target for the incursion, which involved heavy fighting in the village of Midoun in the Bekaa Valley.
At least forty Hizbollah and three Israeli soldiers were killed. Some Israeli newspapers voiced concern over renewed involvement in Lebanon, while others supported the IDF action.
