- Story Text: Palestinians in the West Bank town of Ramallah on Wednesday (December 27) celebrated the departure of Israeli troops, ending 28 years of occupation.
Ramallah was the sixth and final West Bank town to be handed over to Palestinian control under a historic agreement reached in September.
Thousands of Palestinians turned out to mark the occasion. They stormed Ramallah's military headquarters, occupied until now by Israeli forces. Fences were pulled down and Palestinian flags raised.
The Israelis left Ramallah earlier in the day leaving Palestinian police in charge of law and order in the town.
