Protests in support of thousands of Palestinian prisoners on a 10-day-old hunger strike have led to a surge of violence in the West Bank reminscent of the seven-year Palestinian uprising.
Demonstrators are demanding the release of all Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails by the end of June.
They also want the redeployment of Israeli troops on the West Bank.
In Hebron black flags hung from windows to show solidarity with the hunger strike .
Meanwhile a top PLO (Palestine Liberation Organisation) official in Jerusalem, Faisal al-Husseini, and 14 other PLO activists also began a hunger strike on Wednesday (June 28) in support of Palestinian prisoners.
