- Story Text: The Israeli army on Wednesday (November 30) announced it had arrested 43 supsected Hamas activists in the West Bank.
Lieutenant Colonel Moshe Fogel said those arrested on raids on Tuesday were suspected of being connected to the Tel Aviv bus bombing last month, has prevented innocent Israeli civilians from being killed.
The majority of the prisoners rounded up were being held in the Nablus prison.
Hamas is a militant group opposed the peace deal struck between Isreal and the Palestine Liberation Authority (PLO).
In Gaza City, Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar criticized the arrests, saying "We are accustomed as Islamic people to be arrested over the years since the occupation." Israel, rocked by a wave of militant Islamic suicide bombings, has rounded up a total of 400 suspected Hamas activists in a crackdown against the movement.
