- Story Text: Palestinians lawyers representing the village of Al-Khader held a press conference on a East Jerusalem street on Monday (January 2) after Israeli police barred them from meeting at an hotel.
At the makeshift conference, Palestinian lawyers Khader Shqeer and Shafiq Issa claimed the Jewish settlement of Efrat on Palestinian land is illegal and is clearly a political issue, adding that the Palestinian people must protect their land.
The Palestinians protesting over the construction and expansion of the settlement went to the building site near the village of Al-Khader and tried to demonstrate after the news conference.
Israeli soldiers ordered the protesters to disperse, but allowed them to hold a sit-in nearby.
Last week Israeli police and soldiers removed Palestinian protesters and Israeli sympathisers from the site.
The Israeli Cabinet is expected to give their decision today on the legality of the construction, which many agree is damaging the peace process.
Israeli Education Minister Amnon Rubenstein said it had been suggested that construction at the site should stop and will move to a nearby site further away from Arab homes.
