- Story Text: Gaza City on Friday (November 4) was the focus for two very different gatherings commemorating Wednesday's killing of the Islamic Jihad newspaper journalist Hani Palestinian journalist.
About 5,000 members of the Islamic resistance movement Hamas, which opposes the Israeli-Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) peace agreement, marched through the streets denouncing what they said was Israel's killing of Abed.
They shot into the air, waved black flags and signs and shouted slogans calling for revenge for the car-bomb death of Abed.
Elsewhere in Gaza City, PLO (Palestine Liberation Organisation) Chairman Yasser Arafat attended prayers for Abed. On Thursday, he had tried to attend Abed's funeral, but was jeered away away by Hamas and Islamic Jihad followers.
The Palestinian group Islamic Jihad and the PLO have accused Israeli agents of killing 35-year-old Abed. The Islamic Jihad has vowed to take revenge on Israelis.
On the same day, in the occupied town of Nablus, Israeli troops shot tear gas, live ammunition and rubber bullets at a crowd of Palestinian youths after they were pelted with rocks outside a mosque.
There were no reports of injuries.
