An Israel foreign ministry official said the
activity in the Gaza Strip is a continuation of Israel's
fight against "terrorist organizations".
"Israel's activity in the Gaza Strip today is part of
our war against Palestinian terrorism. What we are doing in
the Gaza strip is part of the battle against Palestinian
terrorist organiztaions, which is part of the global war
against international terrorism. Our activity today in the
Gaza Strip is to prevent and to preempt Palestinian terror
activity against civilians here in Israel and especially to
stop the firing of Qassam missiles and suicide bombings
within Israel," said Israeli Foreign Ministry official
Gideon Meir.
The attack was the sixth such helicopter attack since
August 21. Israel has now killed 11 militants and three
bystanders in the Gaza Strip strikes.
Israel started retailiating following the suicide
bombing in Jerusalem on August 21 which killed 20 civilians
and wounded dozens. It lead to the complete disintegration
of the middle east peace plan.
After the first Israeli missile attack on August 21,
Muslim militants renounced a seven-week-old truce.
Palestinians say the attacks amount to assassinations.
Israel says it has no alternative as Palestinian
authorities had not cracked down on militant groups as
required by the road map.
The plan charts a course towards an end to nearly three
years of bloodshed and creation of a Palestinian state by
2005.
