- Story Text: The Israeli military has lifted the curfew for the
first time since an Israeli all out assault on the West Bank
city of Ramallah on Friday.
Representatives of the United Nations welfare and Relief
Agency (UNRWA) have rushed into the West Bank city to supply
food and medical equipment.
Israeli forces have lifted the curfew imposed on
the West Bank city of Ramallah on Tuesday (April 2).
The Israeli army said the curfew was lifted to allow
medical and food supplies to hospitals, and enable foreign
residents to leave the besieged city.
United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) workers
carried rice, sugar and medical supplies into the hospital, as
bulldozers started digging graves outside the hospital.
"We have a lot of bodies inside the hospital, we are
unable to receive any additional dead bodies so we have
decided to bury bodies here at the hospital," Palestinian
deputy health minister Munthur al Sharif said.
Israel invaded Bethlehem and other West Bank towns on
Tuesday as Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon offered
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat a one-way ticket out of his
besieged headquarters.
Israel sent tanks to Ramallah on Friday in what it said was
a bid to halt a wave of suicide attacks. Palestinians say the
aim of Israel's widening military campaign is to block their
goal of an independent state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
