- Story Text: Clashes erupt in Hebron during an anti-barrier
protest.
Clashes erupted in the West Bank city of Hebron on
Sunday (September 19) when Palestinians and foreign peace
activists marched at an anti-barrier demonstration.
Scuffles erupted between the chanting protesters and
Israeli border police who threw tear gas at the scene.
"Of course I'm afraid, you need to be insane in order to
not be afraid," said one protester after seeing his peers
fight with the police.
"But I am certain that what I am doing is just and what
I am doing is necessary in order for there to be a future
in this region. This wall is devastating for all of us.
It's devastating for the people who live here who have no
chance for a normal life," he added.
Israel says the separation barrier is necessary to
prevent Palestinians from carrying out attacks in its
cities. Palestinians call it a land grab.
