  • Story Text: A Palestinian militant armed with a pistol shot and
    wounded an Israeli border policeman at Gilo checkpoint outside
    of Bethlehem.



    The militant was spotted approaching the checkpoint,
    took cover and fired at police and soldiers at the checkpoint
    early on Monday (May 13). Border police returned fire and shot
    the militant dead. A police robot then approached the body to
    examine it in case the man had been been carrying explosives.

    The shooting comes as Palestinian President Yasser Arafat
    was due to visit the Church of Nativity on Monday at
    approximately 0620gmt.
