- Story Text: Days after Ariel Sharon's government branded the
Palestinian Authority an entity supporting terror, prominent
Israeli leftists have met Palestinian officials at a military
checkpoint in the West Bank in a gesture of reconciliation.
Despite the show of solidarity by Israeli dove Yossi
Beilin, Palestinian Minister Yasser Abed Rabbo and Palestinian
legislator Hanan Ashrawi, tit-for-tat violence continued and
new U.S. envoy Anthony Zinni appeared to be losing patience in
his quest for a ceasefire.
Palestinian Information Minister Yasser Abed Rabbo told
the Qalandia meeting any barriers betwen the two sides were
artificial while leftist Israeli leader Yossi Beilin urged the
crowd not to give up on peace.
Since Zinni's arrival, there have been a number of suicide
bombings by Palestinians inside Israel and Israeli aircraft
have pounded Palestinian security installations from the air.
After last week's lethal bombings in Jerusalem and Haifa,
Sharon's cabinet said last week that Yasser Arafat's
Palestinian Authority was an entity supporting terror.
