  • Story Text: Israeli forces have rolled into the West Bank city of
    Ramallah after a series of missile strikes on Palestinian
    targets within a few hundred metres of the Palestinian
    president's headquarters.

    Israeli helicopter gunships fired a missile into the
    outer entrance of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's
    headquarters in the West Bank on Tuesday while he was inside,
    Palestinian officials said.

    Peace negotiator Saeb Erekat said Arafat was in the office
    at the time but was unhurt.

    Israeli military sources confirmed launching an air attack
    in Ramallah which hit buildings belonging to militant groups.

    Ahmed Abdel Rahman, an aide to Arafat, said it hit the
    entrance of the walled compound which includes the president's
    main office in the West Bank.

    Sharon said Yasser Arafat can't have things both ways, "The
    government yesterday established the principle that the
    Palestinian authority is an entity supporting terrorism.

    Yasser Arafat can't have it both ways. He can't be a statesman
    and yet give harbour to the PFLP, to Hamas to Islamic Jihad
    and utilise his own security organisations in attacks aganist
    Israeli citizens," Gold said.
