- Story Text: Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has met with
New Jersey governor James McGreevey in Jerusalem.
The meeting on Monday (August 19) comes just a day
after an agreement was reached between the Israeli and the
Palestinian authorities on the implementation of the Gaza
first plan and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from
Bethlehem and Gaza Strip.
Despite the agreement, the situation in the Palestinian
territories have remained tense.
In the West Bank city of Jenin the Israeli troops clashed
with the Palestinian youth, throwing stones at them.
Palestinian witnesses said a 13-year-old boy was shot dead by
Israeli soldiers during clashes when tanks fired back at the
crowd of Palestinian teenagers.
High-ranking Palestinian authorities said that the
withdrawal was expected to begin within 24 to 48 hours. So far
there was no sigh of Israeli troops leaving the area or easing
their clampdown on the territories.
