- Story Text: A detailed enquiry began in Israel on Thursday (22 February) into the Libyan airliner crash as the country expressed deep regret. But Israel said the tragedy would never have occurred if the pilot had heeded repeated warnings to land.
One hundred and six people died when the Boeing 727 jet, off course over Israeli-occupied Sinai, crashed after being intercepted by Israeli fighters.
Israel's Air Force Commander General Mordecai Hod told newsmen in Tel Aviv the circumstances of the interception and the subsequent crash of the jet.
