- Story Text: Israeli-Palestinian clashes have entered their second
month with Palestinians burying more victims of running street
battles with Israel in the West Bank and Gaza.
The latest Palestinian victims of the violence were
buried on Saturday (October 28) in the West Bank and Gasa,
with angry crowds vowing to avenge their deaths as they
carried the bodies through the streets.
Israeli soldiers and stone-throwing Palestinian youths
clashed later in the same areas.
Overnight shooting by Palestinian gunmen in the Jerusalem
neighbourhood of Gilo drew retaliatory Israeli tank and
helicopter fire in the early hours of the morning.
Helicopter gunners fired machine-guns and a missile at the
West Bank town of Beit Jala.
Several apartments and a school were reported damaged in
Gilo and Beit Jala, but there were no reports of casualties.
After the overnight exchanges of fire, the Israeli army
set up an anti-tank missile position in an area overlooking
Gilo.
Meanwhile Palestinian police on Saturday transferred to
Israel the scorched body of a man found in a burned-out car in
the Palestinian-ruled West Bank town of Ramallah.
A senior Palestinian security official said the man was an
Israeli of Russian origin and that his death was related to
criminal activity.
An Israeli police spokesman said they were trying to
identify the body and had launched an investigation.
