- Story Text: Israeli soldiers catch Palestinian boy with bag
containing suicide bomber's explosive belt at checkpoint,
officer says.
Israeli soldiers on Monday (March 15) caught a
Palestinian boy who unwittingly tried to carry a bag
containing a suicide bomber's explosives belt through a
West Bank checkpoint near the city of Nablus, an officer
said.
"A military policewoman checked a boy, spotted wires
protruding from the bag and stopped the boy, whose age was
under 10. Someone at the checkpoint asked him to carry a
bag," an officer, who identified himself only as
Lieutenant-Colonel G., told Reuters at the roadblock.
The officer said the boy, known as Abdullah, was
detained for questioning, but subsequently released by the
army.
The boy said he wanted to make money and did not know
that there was a bomb in the bag.
Army demolition experts detonated the device in a
controlled blast.
The colonel said the device contained seven to 10 kg (15
to 22 lb) of explosives.
