- Story Text: The recent decision by the Israeli government to sanction the establishment of Jewish settlements on the so called "occupied West Bank" has drawn criticism from all over the world. The latest voice to be added to the protests is that of the Palestinian Liberation Front representative in Jordon, Mr. Abdul Rahman Abu Jbara.
SYNOPSIS: Mr. Abu Jbara denounced the Israeli decision during a recent conference in Amman, the capital of Jordon. The PLO representative said the decision meant that all hopes in the Middle East has been dashed by what he termed, "Israeli jackboot methods." Three of the settlements in question are para-military outposts situated at Yatir, South of Hebron, Zur Natan near Kalkilye and Mevo Horot guarding the road to Jerusalem. The United States has refused to support the israeli decision and the Russians have vehemently denounced it. The Israeli government secretary, Mr. ??? Naor, has said that the decision was not made by his government but by the previous Labour administration and a minestral committee had merely decided to implement the decisions. The Israeli government's action threw a cloud over recent attempts by United States Secretary of State, Mr. Cyrus Vance, to set up peace talks between Israel and its Arab neighbours. Mr. Abu Jbara said the Israeli decision merely showed the world that Israel was what he termed, "a new kind of Nazi challenge to civilisation."
He said that the PLO has always advocated the uselessness of compromising with the Israelis and that such an adamant attitude had been vindicated by what he termed, "the Israeli claims to colonise the West Bank." Mr. Abu Jbara said that Bank." Mr. Abu Jbara said that such action by Israel had only shown that hopes of peace in the Middle East were a mirage and that the PLO would continue to fight for the return of Palestinian and Arab home-lands.
