- Story Text: Pro-Palestine demonstrators gathered in front of the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires on Monday (July 7) and called for an Israeli boycott as Israeli-Palestinian hostilities escalated.
Tensions between Israelis and Palestinians have risen over the killing of three Jewish teenagers in the occupied West Bank, which Israel has blamed on Hamas, and of a 16-year-old Palestinian in East Jerusalem.
Mohammed Abu Khudair's death has touched off clashes between police and stone-throwing Arab protesters in East Jerusalem and in several Arab villages in northern and southern Israel. Police said they arrested 30 people during violence on Sunday night.
Israel on Sunday (July 6) announced it had arrested six Jewish suspects in what police believe was the revenge murder of Abu Khudair, whose charred body was found in Jerusalem on Wednesday (July 2), a day after Jewish teens, Naftali Fraenkel and Gil-Ad Shaer, both 16, and Eyal Yifrah, 19, were buried.
The three Jewish seminary students went missing while hitchhiking on June 12. Hamas has neither confirmed nor denied having any role in their disappearance.
Tilda Rabi, president of the Federation of Argentine-Palestinian Organizations, slammed Israel and likened it to what the Nazis did to the Jews.
"We are talking about something horrendous, of genocide, of torture. The Zionists have learned a lot from the Nazis. They are good apprentices, they are blossoming," said Rabi,
Israel launched a series of air strikes on Gaza early on Monday (July 7) to quell Hamas rocket fire, and the Islamist group's armed wing said seven of its gunmen were killed, making it the deadliest day for Hamas since a 2012 cross-border war with the Jewish state.
Nora Cortinas, activist and cofounder of the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo, an organization formed by mothers of children who were disappeared during the Argentine Dirty War, participated in the protest and called for a boycott against Israel.
"A total repudiation of the Israeli aggression and we are calling on the world to boycott Israel, to not invest there anymore, to not give them the opportunity to continue manufacturing arms to kill these people [Palestinians]," said Cortinas.
