- Story Text: Four Jordanian men jailed for life for killing two Israeli soldiers 17 years ago will serve the rest of their sentence in a prison in Jordan. They're heading across the border in an initiative by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert as a confidence-building step with Jordan's King Abdullah. Four Jordanians, jailed for life for killing two Israeli soldiers are heading back to Jordan to serve out the rest of their sentences.
They left HaSharon prison in Israel on Thursday (July 5) for the road journey over the border.
Three of the men -- Salem Yousef Salame Abu-Jiloun, Khaled Abed Al-Rizak Abu-Jiloun and Amin Abed Al-Kareem Al-Sanna -- infiltrated Israel on November 1990 and killed an Israeli army officer. They were arrested the next day.
The fourth man, Sultan Tahah Mohammed Aljouni, gained access into Israel five days later and killed an Israeli soldier. All four were sentenced to life imprisonment in Israel.
But during a summit in Egypt in June this year Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert told Jordan's King Abdullah the men could be transferred to a prison in Jordan for the rest of their sentence.
Israel's police and army will transfer the four men to the Jordan River border crossing where they will be handed over and taken to a local jail. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
