- Story Text:Victoria's Secret Angels Alessandra Ambrosio and Josephine Skriver cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony of the brand's Shanghai flagship store on Wednesday (March 8), marking the lingerie brand's quest to make deeper inroads into the lucrative China market.
Chinese models Sui He and Ming Xi, both of whom have walked the runway for big fashion houses in Europe, joined the two Angels at the ceremony.
Customers were then allowed in to browse the underwear.
Many Victoria's Secret fans like Xu Dan said they specially came early to avoid the crowds.
"I had hoped to get here early because I was worried that there will be more people in the afternoon or in the evening. People are queuing outside so I specially came here with my friend in the morning," said Xu.
The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is a yearly television production and millions of people tune in. The highlight is seeing the chosen Angels that year strutting out in underwear and the show's trademark wings.
"Talking about Victoria's Secret, it starts with watching the show every year, to see all the beautiful Angels, with their good figures, and before buying, I will imagine how it will look like when I wear it. It will probably be different compared to how the Angels look, I love the Victoria's Secret Angels," said Cui Yiyao.
China's women's underwear market is expected to have a retail value of $25 billion by 2017 - double that of the United States - and will grow to $33 billion by 2020, according to Euromonitor.
The brand, which previously sold its underwear through third parties, also has a store opening in the western city of Chengdu. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
