- Story Text: Argentina's only maker and exporter of human and animal robots recently completed what some are calling a masterpiece -- the first robotic look-alike of the beloved late tango singer Carlos Gardel.
Eduardo Gerardi, the mechanical engineer whose robots can be seen in expos and theme parks all over the world, was hired by Argentine film director Eliseo Subiela for the project.
Gerardi's other works include "The Magical Zoo", a technological show featuring 26 of his robotic animals and a robotic haunted house which is featured at Disney World in Orlando, Florida, United States.
The 37-year old creator's works were also exhibited at the Sevilla Expo of 1990.
Gerardi says he has had lots of luck introducing his creations to the U.S. market, or "Spielberg's country", where he can sell them for ten times as much as in his own country.
But creating a robotic version of Carlos Gardel was a labour of love for Gerardi who enjoys recreating the "rhythms and movements" of human beings in works of metal and steel.
