- Story Text: As all eyes turned to the Stade de France where France and Croatia met in the second World Cup semi-final, soccer of another kind was being played out on a miniature pitch elsewhere in Paris.
Engineers from all over the world on Wednesday (July 8) put their robotic skills to building mechanical World Cup teams.
At La Villette Science Park, the little machines of various shapes and sizes played out their own tournament.
While footballers are accused of being robotic in their play, these robots are trying to master the "beautiful game".
France and Brazil, who meet in the World Cup Final at the Stade de France on Sunday, were impersonated in a game between lego robots. But for the final, two teams from Germany hashed it out, with the winners awarded a "Robocup" trophy.
