- Story Text: At least six people were shot dead and three vehicles torched in the Pakistani commercial hub of Karachi on Monday (September 20), police said.
Two people from the minority Shi'ite community, two from a religious Sunni group and two others affiliated to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were gunned down by unknown assailants in different neighbourhoods of the city.
One of the victims was killed in a crossfire when protesters from a Shi'ite funeral clashed with government security forces.
Local police said neither the reason for the killings -- nor those responsible -- were immediately known.
Later on Monday, unidentified people burned tyres after torching at least three vehicles.
Karachi, home to the country's main port, stock exchange and central bank, has a history of factional, ethnic, religious and political violence. Since June, more than hundred people have been killed in targetted attacks. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
