- Story Text: Spaniards remain calm after the country reported the first positive case of swine flu in Europe.
Spaniards in the town of Almansa remained calm on Tuesday (April 28), after Spain became the first country in Europe to confirm a case of swine flu.
The first case of the virus was found in a man isolated at the town's hospital after returning from a trip to Mexico last week.
Visitors at the hospital in Almansa said they didn't fear the virus.
"In general, around here I haven't seen anything alarming despite having the first case. I'm very calm and I think things are generally very calm," Longino Garcia, a hospital visitor said.
"I understand given what the media says that the first case is here but everything is under control and there is nothing to fear. I came here to visit someone and we didn't have to do anything out of the ordinary,"
said Pepi another visitor.
The unnamed man returned to Spain on April 22 and was put under observation on April 25 with chest problems, Health Minister Trinidad Jimenez told a news conference on Monday (April 27).
On Tuesday Spain confirmed a second positive case of swine flu.
Tuesday's Newspapers also carried headlines of the virus found in the country.
"The Almansene Is Isolated - First Case Of Porcine Flu In EU," said one local paper in Almansa. Whilst Spanish broadsheet "El Pais" read "Porcine Flu Epidemic Jumps Across The Atlantic And Hits Spain And Scotland." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
