rain dampen their spirits and keep rocking to the tunes of
Chemical Brothers, Garbage and The Hives.
Fans at the Rock am Ring open air concert in Germany
did not let a bit of rain and a distinct drop in
temperatures dampen their spirits on Saturday (June 4), and
continued to rock to the bands at the 20th anniversary of
one of Europe's biggest music festivals.
"This is our first time here, and it seems, you know, a
good northern European festival," Tom Rowland from the
"Chemical Brothers" told Reuters, "cold, bit wet, lots of
rock bands. We don't really know what it's like, but people
are coming every year, so it must have something, you know."
Around 80,000 fans and more than 80 bands were
participating in the rock event which took place on three
stages to accommodate all the gigs.
"We've played Rock am Ring and Rock im Park before, and
it was great," "Garbage" drummer Butch Vig said backstage,
"it's cool to be a part of it, I mean there is a big
history here, this has been here for 20 years now, so it is
cool to be part of it and one of the great things for us
about being at these festivals is that we can see a lot of
cool bands."
"It's thrilling to look out into a sea of people and
you know, hopefully they are having a good time, it's a
thrill for us," said his colleague, bassist Duke Erikson.
Swedish band "The Hives" were also playing at the
venue, to Butch Vig's delight: "I've never seen them play
before, so it's cool to be part of a great line up."
"The Hives" themselves were impressed with their German
audience: "I'll tell you one thing, they're the fastest
dancers in Europe, lead singer Pelle Almquist said, "no
matter how fast your song is they'll be able to dance to
it, I saw that... maybe that's something to do with the
folk dancing in Germany."
Rock am Ring festival ended on Sunday (June 5) with
performances by Velvet Revolver, Billy Idol and The
Hellacopters. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
