- Story Text: Members of the diplomatic corps in Lome, Togo, were at the Presidential Palace on Monday (30 December) for a reception held by the President, General Gnassingbe Eyadema. The reception has become an annual event and provides the opportunity for each diplomatic representative to discuss developments in their own nations and particularly their effects on Togo.
In his speech, the President detailed events within Togo. He told the diplomats his country had embarked on a new economic policy in 1974 and despite stock and agricultural problems, he was pleased with progress.
Also present were representatives of Togo's youth and workers groups.
Replying to the President's speech, the French Ambassador said that the spirit of progress shown by the people of Togo would transcend the boundaries of Africa.
