- Story Text: From John Lennon to Iggy Pop, photographer Bob Gruen has captured many of the biggest rock icons of his generation and a collection of some of his career highlights came under their own spotlight in Buenos Aires on Wednesday (December 7).
The exhibition at the Centro Cultural Borges is titled "Rock Seen" and includes 70 photographs captured over four decades.
Gruen traveled to the Argentine capital for its opening.
"Well, I like to inspire people to go out and follow their dreams. I had no plan to become a rock photographer, it just kinda happened because I was living with a rock band. I think that people should be open to change in their life and open to new ideas and I hope that I can inspire them, to feel that way," he said.
Some of the key images on display are intimate family shots of John Lennon, who Gruen counted as a personal friend.
Special scenes he recorded on film with Lennon include him informally playing the piano alongside Mick Jagger and with Ono soon after the birth of their son, Sean.
One of Gruen's earliest jobs was working with Tina and Ike Turner. Then he started to accompany other bands on tour, while continuing to work with Tina Turner as she continued as a solo artist.
Other artists he worked with include Debbie Harry, the Ramones, the New York Dolls, Patti Smith and the Clash.
In recent years, he has turned to contemporary bands, such as Green Day, whose punk spirit he admires.
The exhibition continues until December 19. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
