- Story Text: An Argentine amateur soccer team won a 6-man tournament on Sunday (April 23) along with the opportunity to represent their country in Germany at a parallel competition to the World Cup.
The final result at the Budweiser sponsored event showed Rosario ML defeating Coronel Du Graty Chaco on a penalty kick shootout at the Mar del Plata stadium.
The contest's sponsor, Budweiser Marketing Director Diego Baimaluj, said the tournament gave amateur places a taste of World Cup action.
"They are going to have unforgettable experiences. They will play on a World Cup field, they will wear the same uniforms, they will play with the same balls as the professional players, so they will experience unforgettable experiences as amateurs," he said.
"We are very happy. We fought and fought and finally we found victory," said Rosario ML player, Pablo Sanchez.
The teams will play two 15-minute halves with each team getting five penalty kicks in case of a tie.
Only a quarter of the field played in professional matches is used.
The 6-man tournament will be played at one of the same stadiums where official World Cup matches are taking place and players will wear the same strips and use the same equipment used by their professional counterparts.
Rosario ML will face teams from England, Ireland, Greece, Holland, Portugal, China, and Italy among others in Germany. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
