- Story Text: Argentina is calling all inventors to submit their latest gadgetry for an international invention conference that will take place later in the year.
So far, 650 new inventions have been submitted, among them various innovative and creative products showcasing Argentine talent in the areas of science and technology.
As some of this year's new ideas went on show to give people a taste of what 2006 has to offer, one of last year's show-stoppers was still generating interest: a special football, designed with a camera inside, a popular innovation in a football crazy nation.
This year, other interesting inventions include a new species of grass that can grow without soil. The 2006 expo also boasts a special section of the exhibition dedicated to robots, with the new Sphinx robot already generating interest. This powerful robot, which weighs in at 220 kilos, can push over doors and move trucks, and is valued at 30,000 U.S. dollars.
According to Pablo Sierra of the Science and Technology Secretariat, the idea is to look for new Argentine products that have market potential.
"It's an initiative from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Economy, intended to make visible Argentine talent expressed in products that have market potential," he said.
The organizers are hoping for a total of 2,000 entrants to pitch their products, all of whom will compete for prize money of 180,000 pesos (approximately 60,000 U.S.dollars).
Inventors have until May 30 to apply for inclusion in the October convention. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
