- Story Text: A draw which took place in a Buenos Aires hotel on
Thursday (February 9) revealed Argentina's David Nalbandian
will play Sweden's Robin Soderling in the first game in the
Davis Cup clash between Argentina and Sweden this weekend.
The second match will see the home country's Jose
Acasuso pitted against Sweden's Thomas Johansson.
Nalbandian, ranked number four in the world, will face
Soderling on Friday (February 10), having won twelve
matches over the course of his Davis Cup career, and lost only two.
But according to Swedish team captain Mats Wilander,
the high point will come on Sunday (February 12), when the
final two games are played.
"I think the peak point is some time in the middle of
Sunday, hopefully. I think you hope to play better every
day and I think the first day is very important, but I
think you have to be one - two down at worst going into
Sunday to have a chance to win," he said.
Acasuso, who is ranked 33rd, was drafted into the
Argentine team to replace Gaston Gaudio, who is suffering
from tendonitis in his shoulder. He faces Thomas Johansson,
who has played 21 Davis Cup matches and is ranked 13, in the second game.
According to Argentine team captain Alberto Mancini,
the Swedish players will be formidable opponents. "I think
that they (the Swedish team) come to give their all, and
they feel that they really have a chance. That's the
sensation they have, like we do when we go abroad to play," he said.
The doubles matches will be played on Saturday
(February 11), with the final two points played in singles
games on Sunday. Agustin Calleri and Juan Ignacio Chela are
the remaining two members of the Argentine team, who will
face Sweden's Jonas Bjorkman and Simon Aspelin. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
