- Story Text: INTRODUCTION: Entrants in Sunday's (January 9) Argentina Grand Prix had their first practice session on Thursday (January 6 ). The race, the first of the season, nearly didn't come about after a financial dispute over appearance fees. Last years Argentinean event was cancelled for the same reason.
SYNOPSIS: On Tuesday (4 January) there was a drivers news conference in Buenos Aires president over by clay Regazzoni, in causal clothes, who's changed teams from Ferrari to Tissot. Jochen Mass will be driving a McLaren, as team-mate to James Hunt, the current Champion. Runner up in the 1976 championships, Niki Lauda, was asked about his health following his serious injuries in last years West German Grand Prix.
Clay Regazzoni used to be Lauda's Ferrari team-mate.
Now he'll be driving an Ensign 177 for Tissot. Replacing Regazzoni is Argentina's Carlos Reutemann.
Ian Scheckter, South African Jody Scheckter's younger brother, will be driving a March in his first race in Formula One competition. Another Scheckter first, this time for Jody, will be the machine he's driving. It's a car brand new to Formula One competition - the carbon-fibre-bodied Wolf-ford, entered by the Canadian millionaire Walter Wolf. Its performance will be keenly watched to see if it can match the race-proven McLarens and the Ferraris in the gruelling two-hundred-mile (320 km) race.
